Christmas is fast approaching, and our schoolwork increases two-fold, therefore, less time to be able to write something decent. But there are many things that I can’t help but take notice the past week.
Oh, martial law is implemented in southern Mindanao, in the province of Maguindanao, Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), to retain peace and quell the protests by the citizens against the arrest of their leaders. I’ve heard many comments from this piece of news, but there’s one thing I want to make sure. Was justice served for those who died in the November 23 Maguindanao massacre?
Many aspiring presidentiables areĀ withdrawing from the race for the 2010 elections. Why so? Lack of funds? Lack of support? Well, seeing as we’re being served by politicians who would paste their faces on national television in an effort to campaign early without getting caught by the Commission of Elections, I wouldn’t wonder if those who lacked either two can’t make it to the quota. Save a remarkable few, we have some pretty good clowns in the government right now, they just lacked the clown make-up. God save our country and prevent this upcoming election from turning into a Miss Universe 2010 Malacanang Style.
A few years ago, I learned that I have this disease of the heart named ‘mitral valve prolapse’. My cardio told me that time that in my age, it is of no serious consequence and just preventing myself from getting stressed and having a stash of beta-blockers in case of chest pains would do the trick. I just forgot to tell him that stress is part of being a student, especially where I study, and the fact that his ‘young’ patient is a full-time cynic. Apparently, stress contributes to the symptoms of MVP, and this is becoming troublesome especially when I feel like not trusting the world for just rotating on its axis. I don’t give much of a damn about it until recently, when the symptoms are starting not to become so rare anymore.
But MVP aside, the cold December air is already here, and the presence of tiangges in our campus tells me that I would need to buy my family gifts, especially for my brother, who I haven’t been with for several Christmases because of his work. Don’t forget your family, they’re the ones who’ll be there when no one else will, trust me.
I just got off, and I feel like barfing.. Plane was a bit small and well, turbulence made the plane a remake of a runaway bus.
Here are some things to remember while waiting for your flight in any airport:
1. Make sure you wear pants, or if pants aren’t available, opt for shorts or warmers and rubber shoes, especially if the place feels more December-ish than outside and you’re allergic to the cold.
2. Have spare coins ready. In the case you didn’t bring something to turn your boredom to, you might want to call someone using the payphone, just make sure first that they accept the kind of coins you want to use.
3. If you have a postpaid phone that charges extra when calling to other networks, don’t be tempted to call anyone who isn’t from that network. You may regret doing this later when you see your phone bill.
4. But if you are in some kind of emergency, well, that is what cellular phones are for, right?
5. If this is a short trip, one that doesn’t really pass several time zones, and falling asleep is not your cup of tea, try bringing something to read. Be it a novel, comic book or manga, or even your assigned readings in school, they’d be a great help in efficiently utilizing your idle time.
6. If you are saving to buy something at your destination, refrain from buying anything inside the airport, unless it’s food and you’re dying of hunger. Most airport goods and services would make your wallet significantly lighter than if you bought it outside.
Well, that’s it. Some random thing: the pilot’s name is my beloved’s name in Facebook.. how odd >_<
